The airframe was basically corrosion free, but since it had sat a dozen years offered many surprises in the form of dead birds, nests and other not as pleasant surprises in every nook and cranny!
Everyone was sick of stripper by the time that chore was over - it involved cleaning a
component, adding the chemical paste and letting it work its magic. Then painstakingly scrapped off and finally pressure washed to ensure the chemical stops working.
After cleaning, a complete inspection was in order. All pulleys were removed,
inspected (replaced if needed) and lubricated. All new control cables were installed, new seat rails and parts to numerous to list here. In addition to the rebuild tasks (See Log), we have continued to add little (but important) things like a LORD shimmy damper, a heated Pitot Tube & a 2nd COM!
Finally we added new plastic for wing tips, horizontal and strut bases which got us to the point of Final Paint which was completed by Woodlake Refinishing in Sandwich,IL. A fine job by Russ Ellis and his team!
