In the last decade we have witnessed enormous changes in how we do business. The increased communications and focus on customer service has put pressure on companies for productivity increases and cost containment in order to remain competitive. Many companies found that the old formula just was not going to work anymore. These changes have forced companies to rethink how they do business. In some cases, businesses which formerly stood alone, now operate as a division of another company. Even becoming part of a what was a competitor or at one time a major customer.
Most of these business combinations are consolidating combinations that allow the primary businesses to be more competitive in that they have more control over the source of supply or the availability of a product or service needed in their primary business.
